Fresh's Green Poutine-Style Sweet Potato + Super Fresh cookbook GIVEAWAY

If you had to imagine the healthiest poutine, this would probably come close to the top. First, it is vegan. Second, there are steamed greens include. Third, there are sweet potatoes and they are roasted, not deep-fried. Fourth, the cheese sauce is made from carrots and potatoes. Fifth, there are mushrooms in the gravy.

Why else should you make it? Well, judging by your comments (you guys will be making delicious Thanksgiving meals!) ,most of the components might be leftovers from your Thanksgiving meal. Or possibly a great option for a vegan Thanksgiving as you load up with different side dishes. Read the rest of this entry »

Coconut Sweet Potato Pie + True to Your Roots cookbook GIVEAWAY

Coconut Sweet Potato Pie + True to Your Roots cookbook GIVEAWAY

I scouted out white sweet potatoes for this recipe, but I think it would have been even better with purple sweet potatoes. Purple sweet potatoes are taking over the blogosphere! In any case, without the typical orange hue, you may have a hard time believing this is a sweet potato pie but it is. Read the rest of this entry »

Vegan Apple Hand Pies

Vegan Apple Pie Hand Pies

I am kind of sad I didn’t take a picture after I took a bite from one of these hand pies. Beet Carpaccio Salad with Arugula and Miso Dressing + Roberto’s New Vegan Cooking GIVEAWAY

You know it has been a great vacation when you get back and kind of forgot where you left off from life.

No kitchen meals buffered in my head. I even forgot one of my passwords at work.

Rob and I returned late Saturday so that we could regroup on Sunday. I forgot what was in the kitchen but thankfully found a sweet potato and carrot to make a quick batch of Gena’s Easy Lentil, Sweet Potato & Coconut Curry (omitted the ginger and used Penzey’s new curry powder – The Now Curry – which was spicier than their Sweet Curry Powder – but lent a nice complexity to the dish). Hiking in Death Valley

Hi again. Sorry for the lack of posting. Rob and I just returned from a fabulous camping roadtrip in California. (That’s a picture of me hiking in Death Valley!)

Instead of reading blogs while on vacation, I tend to use it as a way to catch up on some of the articles I have saved through Pocket. Last time, when I returned from Madagascar, I had a curated list of links about travel and Madagascar. This time, I have a few fun articles to recommend, which range from nerdy science things (parasite cancer killing a man with HIV), the future is now (robot secretary?), foodie things (how non-food things make food taste), travel (there is a company that sells your unclaimed lost luggage) as well as a look into the corporate culture in Amazon. Enjoy! Read the rest of this entry »

First, I made the most awesome pear butter this weekend. Salted caramel pear butter. Oh yeah. Read the rest of this entry »
